Understanding Adherence

What is Adherence?

Adherence is how well you follow your medication schedule. It's calculated as:

Adherence = (Doses You Took / Doses You Should Have Taken) × 100

Example:

  • You're supposed to take 2 doses per day
  • Over 7 days, that's 14 doses
  • You took 12 doses
  • Adherence = (12 / 14) × 100 = 85.7%

Adherence Colors

  • 90% or higher Excellent! Keep it up!
  • 70-89% Good, but try to improve
  • Below 70% Needs attention - talk to your provider

Why Adherence Matters

Taking medications as prescribed:

  • Helps them work properly
  • Prevents complications
  • Reduces hospitalizations
  • Improves your health outcomes
Struggling with adherence? Set phone reminders, use a pill organizer, talk to your doctor about simplifying your schedule, or ask about medications with fewer daily doses.

I Forgot My Password

  1. Click "Forgot your password?" on the login page
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Click "Email Password Reset Link"
  4. Check your email for the reset link
  5. Click the link and create a new password
Didn't receive the email? Check your spam/junk folder, make sure you used the correct email address, wait a few minutes and try again, or contact your healthcare provider.

I Can't Find My Medication in the Search

The medication might not be in the database yet.

Solutions:

  1. Try searching by generic name instead of brand name (e.g., "ibuprofen" instead of "Advil")
  2. Try searching by brand name if you used generic
  3. Contact your administrator to add the medication

My Adherence Percentage Seems Wrong

Common causes:

  • Schedule times not set - Make sure you've added specific times
  • Haven't logged doses - The system only counts logged doses
  • Recently added medication - Give it a few days to calculate accurately

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to log every single dose?

Yes, for best results. Logging all doses helps track your adherence accurately, identify patterns or issues, share accurate information with your doctor, and trigger refill reminders at the right time.

Quick logging from your dashboard takes less than 5 seconds!

What if I take a medication "as needed" (PRN)?

For as-needed medications:

  1. Add the medication with frequency: "As Needed"
  2. Don't set specific schedule times
  3. Log each dose whenever you take it
  4. Add notes about why you took it (e.g., "headache", "pain level 7")

Can my family members see my medications?

Only if you have a designated caregiver. Your healthcare provider can assign a caregiver to your account. Caregivers can view your medications, log doses on your behalf, request refills for you, and see your adherence.

What if I miss several doses?

Don't double up! Here's what to do:
  1. Log the missed doses in MedTracker (mark as "Missed")
  2. Contact your healthcare provider for guidance
  3. Resume your normal schedule unless told otherwise
  4. Never take extra doses to "catch up" without asking your doctor

Can I use MedTracker for vitamins and supplements?

Yes! Add vitamins and supplements just like prescription medications. This helps track everything you're taking, prevents interactions, shows complete picture to your doctor, and maintains adherence tracking.

Is my information backed up?

Yes! Your data is automatically backed up daily, encrypted for security, stored redundantly, and recoverable in case of issues. You don't need to do anything - it's all automatic.
